Help & How-To Guide

Everything you need to open, brand, and use your kit — no tech skills required. Jump to the part you need.

Your files at a glance

Every document in your kit comes two ways, so you can work however you like:

  • Editable Word file (.docx) — customize everything: add your logo, change wording, rates, and colours. Best when you want to brand it as your own.
  • Fillable PDF — type straight into the blanks on any device and print or sign. Best when you just want to fill in and go, with no software.

The bonus marketing pieces (business cards, signs, flyer, price menu, report card, and more) come as editable PowerPoint (.pptx) files that open in Canva, Google Slides, PowerPoint, or Keynote — plus Word backups.

Tip: fill in a “master” copy once with your business name, contact info, and rates, save it, then reuse it for every client.

Editing the Word documents (.docx)

Microsoft Word (Windows or Mac)

Just double-click the .docx file to open and edit it.

Google Docs (free, any device)

  1. 1Go to docs.google.com and sign in with a free Google account.
  2. 2Choose File → Open → Upload, and select the .docx file (or drag it into Google Drive and double-click it).
  3. 3Edit it in your browser. To save a copy back as Word, use File → Download → Microsoft Word (.docx).

Apple Pages (Mac or iPad) — opening & converting .docx

  1. 1Open Pages, then choose File → Open and select the .docx file — Pages converts it automatically.
  2. 2Make your edits. Pages is free on every Mac and iPad.
  3. 3To send it back as a Word file, choose File → Export To → Word. To make a PDF, choose File → Export To → PDF.

Making it yours

  • Replace the blanks and any [bracketed] text with your details.
  • Add your logo with Insert → Pictures (Insert → Image), then place it at the top.
  • Change colours and fonts from the toolbar to match your brand.
  • Delete anything that doesn't apply to your business.

Filling in the fillable PDFs

The PDFs have click-and-type form fields wherever you see an underlined blank.

Windows

  1. 1Open the PDF in the free Adobe Acrobat Reader (download it at get.adobe.com/reader if you don't have it).
  2. 2Click any blank and type. Tab moves to the next field.
  3. 3Save with File → Save, then print or email it.

Mac / iPad

  1. 1Open the PDF in Preview (Mac) or the Files/Books app (iPad).
  2. 2Click a field and type; use the markup tools to add a signature if you like.
  3. 3Save with File → Export as PDF.
  • If your web browser won't let you type or save, download the file first and open it in Adobe Reader or Preview.
  • Print for a handwritten signature, or upload the PDF to any free e-signature tool (DocuSign, HelloSign, etc.) to sign online.

Customizing the marketing designs (Canva, Slides, PowerPoint)

The marketing pieces are PowerPoint (.pptx) files, so they're fully editable — change the colours, swap the paw for your own logo, and edit the text. Open them in whichever tool you prefer.

Canva (free)

  1. 1Go to canva.com and sign in (a free account is fine).
  2. 2Click Create a design → Import file (or open any design and use the Uploads menu), and select the .pptx file. Canva turns each slide into an editable design.
  3. 3Change colours: click a shape, then the colour tile in the toolbar, and pick your brand colour.
  4. 4Add your logo: use Uploads to upload your logo image, drag it over the paw, then delete the paw.
  5. 5Edit text: click any text box and type your business name, phone, email, and rates.
  6. 6When you're done, use Share → Download → PDF for printing, or PNG/JPG to post online.

Google Slides (free)

Go to slides.google.com → File → Open → Upload, and select the .pptx file. Edit, then File → Download → PDF or PNG.

PowerPoint & Keynote

PowerPoint: double-click the file to open. Keynote (Mac/iPad): File → Open → select the .pptx. Export or download as PDF for printing, or PNG/JPG for social.

The business card file includes 4 designs — one per slide. Keep the one you like and delete the other slides. The visit card prints 4 to a page: print a stack, fill one in, and leave it after each visit.

Which document do I use, and when?

  2. 2Onboard — send the New Client & Pet Intake Form, Veterinary Care Release, and Key Release & Home Access Form.
  3. 3Book — send the Pet Sitting or Dog Walking Service Agreement to sign.
  4. 4After each visit — leave a Daily Pet Care Report / Visit Log, Pet Report Card, or Visit Card.
  5. 5Get paid — send the Invoice Template.

(Some documents are part of the Pro Kit — you'll have whichever came with your purchase.)

FAQ

Do I need to buy any software?

No. Everything opens in free tools: Google Docs and Google Slides (any device), Apple Pages and Keynote (Mac/iPad), and the free Adobe Acrobat Reader or Mac Preview for PDFs. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Canva work too if you have them.

Can I use the files on my phone or tablet?

Yes. Use the Google Docs / Google Slides apps, the Canva app, the Adobe Acrobat mobile app, or Apple's Pages/Keynote on iPad. Editing is easiest on a computer, but filling in a PDF works fine on a phone.

The PDF won't let me type, or won't save my answers.

Some web browsers preview PDFs without saving form entries. Download the file and open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader (Windows) or Preview (Mac), type into the blanks, then save. On a browser you can also use Print → Save as PDF to keep a filled-in copy.

How do I change the colours and add my logo to the marketing pieces?

Open the .pptx file in Canva, Google Slides, PowerPoint, or Keynote. Click a shape to change its colour, click any text to edit it, and use Insert → Image (or Canva's Uploads) to place your logo over the paw. Full steps are in the 'Marketing designs' section above.

Can I edit the wording of the contracts?

Yes — open the editable Word (.docx) version of any document to change the wording, rates, or policies. The fillable PDF is for typing into the blanks and printing as-is.

I can't find my download, or I need the files again.

Are these documents legal advice?

No. These are professionally written templates for your convenience. They are not legal advice, not official or government forms, and were not prepared by an attorney. Using them does not create an attorney-client relationship, and we are not a law firm. Laws vary by location, so have a licensed local attorney review your final versions before you rely on them.
